Joachim Low criticizes Ozil after Germany exit

Toni Kroos's sublime victor against Sweden had given Germany hope heading into the game in Kazan, but Low's men again failed to find any semblance of form against a disciplined Korea Republic side.

Holders Germany crashed out of the World Cup to giant killers South Korea in the group stage on Wednesday as Sweden and Mexico qualified on a day of drama in Russian Federation.

"We needed to throw things forward, and it opened things up in defence".

Those who remained applauded sarcastically when South Korea's Son Heung-min scored a late second goal into an empty net.

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has hit out at his squad and branded his side's performances in the World Cup as "pathetic" after Die Mannschaft were eliminated from the tournament in the group stages.

Like France in 2002, Italy finished at the bottom of their group, with injuries and age playing its part.

The Germans had never gone out in the group stage of the tournament.

"It's a historic disgrace", Der Spiegel weekly said, decrying Germany's "weak game" against a plucky South Korea.

The Germans reached the semifinals at the 2016 European Championship and won last year's Confederations Cup, a dress rehearsal for the tournament in Russian Federation, with what was basically a reserve team.

But history was not on Germany's side - as BBC "Match of the Day" tweeted out, this is the third straight tournament in which the reigning World Cup winners have failed to get out of the group stage.

That equalled the best appearance by Mexico at a World Cup.

Mexico's Edson Alvarez had an own goal in the 74th minute.

"I bear the responsibility for the exit but I thought we put out a good team today", he added.

Once Sweden took the lead, Mexican fans paid more attention to the other match, rooting against Germany, which could have passed Mexico with a victory.

The £350,000-a-week Premier League star as well as other Die Mannscaft squad members from images, were nearly in tears as they shouted back at the fan, with another teammate, holding the Arsenal playmaker as they were heading to the exit doors.
