Coffins at DMZ to collect United States service members' remains from North Korea

North Korea appeared unwilling Sunday to respond harshly after US President Donald Trump reversed course to declare it still a threat, pledging that its leader Kim Jong Un's regime seeks a "new era" with the United States but offering no specific plans toward dismantling its nuclear program.

North Korea returned the remains of 200 American troops who went missing during the 1950-1953 Korean War, President Donald Trump said during a rally on June 20.

The U.S. insistence on the complete denuclearization of North Korea could work against America's interests as political pressure mounts to make rapid progress, analysts say.

Although the Singapore declaration said this would happen immediately, USA officials have given no indication that North Korea has committed to any specific timetable for the return.

The comments also did not address promises by North Korea to return the remains of some USA military personnel from the Korean War.

Also on Friday, the US and South Korea agreed to indefinitely suspend two exchange programme training exercises, to support diplomatic negotiations with North Korea, the Pentagon said.

The Freedom Guardian exercises had been set for August.

In North Korea on Friday, a South Korean delegation met with North Korean officials on reunions for families separated by the Korean War and other humanitarian issues, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

The meetings came as the USA and China appeared to be hurtling toward an all-out trade war - and a week after President Donald Trump's historic Singapore summit with Kim, which the North Korean leader already appears to be reaping the benefits of.

"There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea", Trump tweeted after the summit June 13. It is separate from U.S. sanctions related to North Korean human rights abuses and a long list of global penalties imposed over Pyongyang's nuclear and ballistic missile testing.

Mr Trump claimed at a Cabinet meeting on Thursday that denuclearisation had already begun but there is reportedly no evidence to suggest that this is correct.

Efforts to recover and return other remains have stalled because of the North's nuclear weapons development and United States claims that the safety of recovery teams sent during the administration of George W Bush was not sufficiently guaranteed.

Suga noted, however, that North Korea has said it would not conduct tests and Kim had promised complete denuclearisation.

"There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea". USA officials, however, have cautioned that such actions are reversible.
