AMC comes for MoviePass with $20/month Stubs membership - and it sounds awesome

The new service, AMC Stubs-A-List, costs more than MoviePass at $19.95 a month, but the benefits may well justify the cost. In addition, the service can be used to see the same movie multiple times. Will you make the switch from MoviePass to Stubs A-List?

AMC's Stub A List Plan is set to launch on June 26 and interested users will be able to sign up via AMC's website.

AMC's new service is about twice as expensive as MoviePass' offering, which charges customers $9.95 per month for daily trips to the movies, though subscribers can't view the same movie a few times or share their accounts with others. With MoviePass, Langdon said she's taking more chances on smaller releases instead of sticking with blockbusters and their sequels. "It's simple, seamless, and a great way to go to the movies".

Theatres may be giving MoviePass a run for its money.

MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe said he was anxious AMC's negative stance would hurt how people see MoviePass, the Deseret News reported. "What I'm anxious about is it confusing customers and making them believe they can't use this service at AMC theaters". However, there have been hiccups along the way like sudden blackouts on certain titles or theater chains refusing to accept the MoviePass service.

MoviePass forcefully responded to AMC's announcement on Wednesday.

People originally thought AMC was turning away MoviePass.

The new subscription service is the latest salvo in a heated battle for what the movie business most craves: frequent moviegoers. AMC is the largest theater chain in the world.

In the meantime, Cinemark announced its own subscription service that, for $8.99 per month, gave customers one movie ticket per month.

Here's how it works: for $20 a month, A-List subscribers get to see three movies per week at any AMC, AMC Dine-in, and AMC Classic theater in the United States.

That "sustainable" reference is a clear dig at MoviePass, an independent movie ticket subscription service that has been losing millions of dollars with monthly rates as low as $6.95 as it has built a subscriber base that recently passed the 3 million mark.
