Gillette Stadium Will Likely Host World Cup 2026 Games

Mexico will once again enjoy itself this summer, as the 2018 tournament prepares to kick off on Thursday, but there has been a bitter taste in many Americans' mouths since the U.S. Men's National Team's failure in the build up to Russian Federation.

This will be the United States' first time hosting World Cup matches since 1994.

From the start, the Foxborough home of the Patriots and the New England Revolution has been considered among likely World Cup host sites.

Highlights of the bid included promising $11 billion in profit on more than $14 billion in revenue and an already strong infrastructure for hosting.

Of the 80 games, 10 matches will be held in Canada, 10 in Mexico and 60 in the United States with the final played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, home to the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets.

The U.S. won its three-way bid with Canada and Mexico - known as United 2026 - to host the men's FIFA World Cup, beating out Morocco, the only other nation to bid. The country hosted in 1970, but it also hosted in 1986 after it was originally awarded to Colombia, who couldn't host for economic reasons. "'We are humbled by the trust our colleagues in the FIFA family have put in our bid; strengthened by the unity between our three countries and the CONCACAF region; and excited by the opportunity we have to put football on a new and sustainable path for generations to come".

"I would like to reaffirm the determination of my country to continue to work for football and realise one day our dream to host the World Cup in Morocco".

North America received backing from former Manchester United and LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham as he believes the "fans passion for football would make the event very special".

The host nations will receive automatic bids to compete in the tournament.

"We are grateful for the chance to bring to life FIFA's new vision for the future of football", said Decio de Maria, President of Mexico Football Federation and Co‐Chair of the United Bid.

The same evaluation task force later expressed concerns over stadiums, the availability of accommodation, and the travel network, despite ratifying their proposals.
