They also agreed - as decided during their first informal summit at Wuhan in April - to maintain strategic communications through various channels, including telephone calls and frequent meetings on the sidelines of multilateral events.

Xi conveyed to the Indian side that China's defence minister and minister of public security, who is equivalent to India's home minister, will visit New Delhi this year.

Participants at the summit will discuss about issues including information security, combating cross-border crime and the formation of permanent bodies to ensure law enforcement and security, he said.

PM Narendra Modi kicked off his bilateral engagements at the SCO summit in Qingdao with a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in which both leaders essentially underscored the significance of their Wuhan informal summit in India-China bilateral relationship.

Describing the almost hour-long meeting as "substantial" and "forward looking", foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale said both leaders made a very positive assessment of developments since they last met in the central city of Wuhan during April 28-29.

Though new and old contentious issues remain, there has been a turnaround in bilateral ties since the military standoff was resolved last August.

Mr. Xi accepted Mr. Modi's invitation for another "informal summit" in India next year and described Wuhan as a "new starting point" in India-China relations.

On the occasion, President Mamnoon said that Pakistan supported the Chinese chairmanship of SCO and appreciated the various initiatives proposed by China in the organization during the past year. The two leaders also agreed to continue close coordination and cooperation on all issues of mutual interest.

"On the Indian side, it will be headed by the external affairs minister (Sushma Swaraj) while on Chinese side, it will be headed by state councilor and foreign minister Wang Yi".

"Member states of the SCO are key to the success of the Belt and Road initiative and China's growing influence as a Eurasian power", said Murphy.

They also agreed to explore ways to improve the balance of bilateral trade. China's customs administration and India's department of agriculture on rice exports will enable India to now export non-basmati rice varieties, expanding an earlier 2006 protocol on rice exports.

At the meeting, the Chinese side also agreed to import high-quality agricultural products from India and said they will also allow Indian pharmaceutical products in Chinese market.

Hussain said that China is a reliable friend and steady partner of Pakistan, and relations between the two countries are unshakable.

India has been strongly pushing for connectivity projects like the Chabahar port project and International North-South Transport Corridor to gain access to resource-rich central Asian countries. India will also be allowing Bank of China to open a branch in Mumbai, Gokhale said.
