Samuel Umtiti: Barcelona defender signs new five-year deal

Barcelona have emphatically ended Manchester United's hopes of signing defender Samuel Umtiti by inserting an eye-watering release clause in his newly signed contract extension, according to reports.

Barcelona have made an official statement to announce that they have reached an agreement with Samuel Umtiti to extend his current contract with the club.

"The Frenchman will be putting pen to paper on Monday in the Josep Sunol lounge at Camp Nou".

"We think that, with this clause, nobody will think of coming here to try to take him away", Bartomeu said.

Umtiti recently fuelled even more speculation linking with the Premier League runners-up by refusing to rule out a move, insisting he would only make a final decision on his future after the World Cup.

He is now preparing for the World Cup as part of France's 23-man squad where he is expected to partner Real Madrid's Raphael Varane.

"I'm a little nervous because my dream here continues", Umtiti said. "Since the first day, I've felt at home at the club and I want to stay here", he told a press conference.

The loss of Neymar for €222m to Paris Saint-Germain last August exacerbated fears Umtiti could be tempted to leave, just two years after signing from Lyon in a €25m deal. I'm happy in the city, in the team and I feel like I've got the backing from all over the world.
