Two Dead, Two Missing After Plane Crash Off Amagansett

The Coast Guard said Sunday afternoon that it suspended its search for the plane wreckage and the two remaining occupants due to rapidly deteriorating sea conditions.

The Piper PA31 Navajo Aircraft crashed off the coast of Long Island near East Hampton, according to the US Coast Guard.

Also on board the plane was Krupinski's wife, Bonnie Krupinski, 70; grandson Will Maerov, 22; and the pilot, Jon Dollard, 47. His star-studded roster of clients included Billy Joel, Christie Brinkley and Martha Stewart, among others.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate, along with local authorities, and the NTSB will determine the cause of the crash.

Mr. O'Hare could not identify a cause of the plane crash, only offering that it was around the time that thunderstorms had entered the area.

"Most of the units have stopped their search at sunset, including four divers from the East Hampton Town Police Department", Coast Guard Petty Officer Frank Iannazzo-Simmons said Saturday evening. The Bistrian family is one of the largest landowners in the Hamptons.

Update, 5:10 p.m.: East Hampton Town Police Chief Michael Sarlo said that a small plane lost contact with East Hampton Airport about one mile south of the airport Saturday afternoon.

Two bodies were recovered from the scene, WABC-TV reported.

Saturday's deadly crash marked the second small plane crash on Long Island in a week.

Search crews on Sunday continued to scour the eastern edge of Long Island after a plane carrying a prominent homebuilder and his family crashed a day earlier. The plane went down about a mile and a half off the coast of Indian Wells Beach in Amagansett.
