Visa transactions affected by service disruption

Thousands of users are reporting their Visa debit cards are not working when trying to checkout at multiple locations.

European Visa debit card users voiced their frustration online. "We will keep you updated".

Visa card payment failures have spread across Europe, frustrating shoppers and travelers who were advised to seek out cash-or use Mastercard's service.

The company statement added that they are investigating the cause of the disruption and are working as quickly as possible to resolve the situation.

Payment processing company Paymentsense said late Friday afternoon that transactions were starting to go through after a period of disruption but "there is still some intermittency" because of a backlog.

The issue with payments began just after 2:30pm today. Visa and the banks need to ensure no-one is left out of pocket due to this outage.

Bank social media accounts also confirmed the outage and informed customers of the issue.

Visa cardholders can now use their Visa cards as we are currently operating at close to normal levels.
