Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL to launch in October this year

Just like past year, Google managed to release the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, two critically acclaimed devices that somehow did not manage to sell as well as they should have.

The report from D Daily (via Droid-Life) falls in line with images of a tempered glass screen projector that appeared online earlier this week. Instead the affect of Google's phones can be more about influencing third-party handsets than anything else. The Google Pixel 3 is said to have the same design as its predecessor and will not have an edge-to-edge display. Traditionally, Google would go to companies like LG to manufacture their devices, but this year it's thinking of Foxconn as a potential manufacturer.

Now it's been claimed that Google has drawn influence from its arch-rival for its upcoming Pixel 3. The Pixel 3, it's suggested, will have a regular, rectangular touchscreen and traditional bezels, thicker top and bottom and narrower on the sides. The Pixel 3 XL will reportedly have a almost edge-to-edge display and a notch design similar to the iPhone X. The larger device will have a almost edge-to-edge screen, plus a notch design at the top similar to the iPhone X, Bloomberg reports.

However it's also said to be "noticeably taller" than the notch on the iPhone X.

The report also offers some details on the Pixel 3 series, saying there'll be at least two models Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. And of course, Google will up the cameras even further this year.

The word from Bloomberg is that the upcoming pair of devices (Pixel 3 and 3 XL, presumably), will both launch this year, but with rather different features.

When Google launched the first Pixel, it no longer put the name of the hardware partner on the device. In 2018, it's Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC is now found in all the flagships and the same chipset is believed to power the new Pixel phones too.

'The bigger Pixel will include two camera lenses on the front of the phone inside of the notch, ' Bloomberg wrote.

Like the original Pixel and Pixel 2, Google is likely to use the latest chipset available for the Pixel 3 smartphone as well. Verizon Wireless Inc., for the third year in a row, will be the exclusive USA carrier partner for the new Pixels, the people said.

Why the mixed messages on screen notches? That way, Google says, they won't try to show icons or messages where they can't actually be seen.

As a showcase for Android P, therefore, one of 2018's Pixels having a notch and the other not is definitely a clear show-and-tell.
