How to turn on Messages in iCloud

This includes AirPlay 2, which improves Apple's wireless audio tech with a bigger buffer so that small network issues don't interrupt your playback and a tighter clock sync between devices to enable multi-room audio on the HomePod and AirPlay 2-enabled speakers. HomePod will be able to communicate with other AirPlay 2-enabled speakers as well.

But Messages in Cloud didn't make it to the initial release of iOS 11 last September, and while it's shown up in a few betas since then, Apple has never rolled out the feature to the public at large. The update, which included Messages in iCloud, essentially enables you to treat your iMessages like you treat your photos. And it also works with SMS across devices.

Though HomePod's sales have reportedly been underwhelming, Apple is looking to change that by expanding the speaker's capabilities and availability outside of its initial territories. All the messages in the new iCloud feature sync across devices and also appear the moment you sign into a new device.

Here's what you need to know about Messages in iCloud and how to switch on the new feature. AirPlay 2's multi-room audio allows iOS users to stream music or podcasts to supported devices in any room using Control Center's destination controls, in-app controls, or Siri. That way, they don't have to take up space on your iPhone, iPad, or other device.

The new iOS 11.4 update will allow Apple users to use two HomePods together with this feature.

Anyway, as it turns out, there is a much more important feature in iOS 11.4 than AirPlay 2 stereo pairing. However, if you set up a new device, you would not see any of your old messages or conversations on that device. It includes stereo pairing support for AirPlay 2 and the HomePod smart speaker.

Once paired, the speakers rely on the A8 chip to sync and split the left and right stereo channels between the two devices. Scroll down to the list of apps with iCloud support and toggle on Messages.
