Danica Patrick ends racing career with crash at Indy 500

In a crash-filled race Sunday that came down to the final laps, Power soared to the front to take his first checkered flag at the iconic event, transforming the usually reserved driver into a ball of emotions.

"Today was really disappointing for what we were hoping for and what you want for your last race, but I'm grateful for all of it.I wish I could have finished stronger", Danica said when interviewed by ABC broadcasters.

"I had a great month".

They were hopefully going to try and get the auto tuned up throughout the race but I think he had a rollbar issue was well; I could hear him saying he couldn't adjust the rollbar. I was here when he finished P2 in 2015, and in the motorhome afterwards I could see how much that hurt.

"I'm a little sad", Patrick said.

I started watching @DanicaPatrick compete back when she ran in the Atlantic Championship Series. "I was wondering if I would ever win it". She finished 30th, her worst career finish at this race and only her second time out of the top 10.

Patrick left her mark on the two biggest and most popular motorsport series in North America, IndyCar and NASCAR, but she could not deliver the Hollywood ending to a story that just might one day end up on the silver screen.

I said I was proud of him.

Will Power can win anything now, even the Indianapolis 500, an intimidating race on an oval he hated because it marginalised his talent. "We'll certainly take a good luck at that for sure", Penske said. My career, I've had so many wins, I've had so many poles but everyone talks about the (Indy) 500. But all three needed enough gas to get to the finish line, and it was Power who was frantically chasing them down. Sebastien Bourdais, three-time victor Helio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan also lost control and wrecked. Castroneves was going for a record-tying fourth victory in the 500. And those high temperatures, along with the new aero kits used by cars this season, appeared to have a significant impact on the race, limiting passing and making the cars hard to control.

Defending champion Takuma Sato also crashed out after running into the back of James Davison's auto.
