Solo: A Star Wars Story Referenced Another Phantom Menace Character

The new of Mangold's efforts on the standalone Boba Fett movie comes on the eve of Solo: A Star Wars Story being released, revisiting the character originally played by Harrison Ford with Alden Ehrenreich in the titular role.

Solo: A Star Wars Story arrives in United Kingdom cinemas on 25 May 2018.

Disney also has plans for an Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff movie with Stephen Daldry in talks to direct, though no script is now being worked on.

I think Mangold is a great choice, and this lends credence to the rumor that Simon Kinberg has been working on a Boba Fett script as the two have worked on films together in the past.

According to The Verge, the fan favorite Fett made his first appearance in the 1978 "Star Wars Holiday Special". Solo: A Star Wars Story is in theaters everywhere this weekend.

It was not immediately clear if Kinberg and Mangold's Boba Fett projects were one and the same, but it seems likely - both filmmakers are connected through the X-Men franchise, and collaborated together on Mangold's critically-acclaimed Logan.

The Star Wars stories aren't stopping anytime soon, and Boba Fett is next. We have countless Star Wars TV shows, Star Wars video games, Star Wars reality shows, and of course, Star Wars films.

While that approach could potentially lead to a headline down the road that reads, "Mangold exits Boba Fett film over creative differences", one can only hope that Lucasfilm doesn't stand too much in his way. He entered the film canon in 1980's The Empire Strikes Back and escorted Han Solo to Jabba the Hut in Return of the Jedi.

Dedicated fans will remember seeing Boba Fett's younger self showing up in "The Clones Wars" animated show as well.

Boba Fett is a man of color.
