Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster: Bridging the GT and GT C Gap

Mercedes-AMG is adding an "S" trim to its GT Roadster line, to slot in between the base GT and the high-performance GT C, the German automaker said mid-May. The GT S has the same driveline as the GT, as opposed to the wider tracks of the GT C and GT R (which isn't available as a Roadster).

The Mercedes- AMG GT S Roadster is on sale now and deliveries will begin in August.

When it arrives on United Kingdom roads in August 2018, the soft-top will complete the AMG GT range of performance cars and take up a mid-point in the soft-top line-up between the 476hp GT Roadster and 557hp GT C Roadster.

AMG says the GT S Roadster, the third introduction to the GT Roadster line-up, has had modifications made to not only its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, but also to its suspension, brakes, design and interior. The GT S receives the GT C's electronically actuated unit, as opposed to the GT's mechanical differential.

The company did not announce a price, but CNET expects the price to slide in between the $125,000 GT and the $157,000 GT S. Does $140,000 to $145,000 sound about right? It's the same features found on the GT C minus the rear-wheel steering.

Moreover, the jet wing styling of the vehicle's front apron takes its ride height lower.

In the cabin of the Roadster the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster can be detected Artico artificial leather (genuine leather is available as an option), sports seats AMG, silver chrome accents.

In addition, buyers can specify the AMG Dynamic Plus package, which brings firmer suspension, active engine mount and quicker-responding steering.

"With the AMG GT S Roadster, our AMG GT family has gained another exceptionally sporty member that combines high driving dynamics with an emotional open-air experience", stated AMG Chairman, Tobias Moers, in the car's press release.
