UFC 224 Results: Mackenzie Dern Submits Amanda Cooper in First Round

After the fight, Dern said she believes the UFC wants her to move up in weight class.

Mackenzie Dern entered Saturday night's UFC 224 bout against Amanda Cooper griping about all the questions she has faced about her propensity to miss weight, which had happened twice previously in her six-bout MMA career. For missing weight, Dern was fined 30-percent of her purse, with 20-percent going to Cooper and the remaining 10-percent going to the Brazilian commission.

"When I got here, I was okay, but the people in the UFC, they were a little bit anxious", Dern told MMA Junkie earlier this week.

"I've always wanted to fight here in Brazil", she said. I'm going to take their help.

"The last seven months I fought four times", she said. But there was a point where the weight wasn't going away any more. A lot of things have been happening, it's not an excuse. It's not an excuse. I didn't feel pressure, I just got so emotional with everything that happened. "I don't want that to happen again". But it's a mistake. Not that one thing is worse than the other, but I don't take steroids, I wasn't popped for anything. I wasn't popped for anything. There are champions that are caught for drugs and cocaine and things like that. "The UFC is investing in me and I'm going to work with them not to happen ever again".

Dern said she is aware of the criticism and vowed to make changes to her diet.

Cooper and Dern are scheduled to meet on the main card of Saturday's PPV event. They told me even without a fight, they're going to make me make weight and they're going to stay on me, but that's what I need.
