Trump, Kim Jong Un summit date, venue agreed, announcement soon

He says the United States is having substantial talks with Pyongyang including on the issue of USA citizens held prisoner there.

"We're having very substantive talks with North Korea and a lot of things have already happened with respect to the hostages", said Mr Trump on Friday. "I think you're going to be seeing very, very good things". The White House said it did not have any announcements to deliver on Friday morning after Trump spoke.

The president has said that Singapore and the demilitarized zone between North Korea and South Korea were under consideration, and he has said the summit could take place in late May or early June.

The meeting was suggested and provisionally agreed in March, after a South Korean delegation met Mr Kim in Pyongyang and later visited the White House.

"We got Kim Jong Un impressed enough to be releasing three prisoners today", Giuliani said during an appearance on Fox & Friends.

"The New York Times story is utter nonsense", Bolton said.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is on Trump's private legal team, told "Fox and Friends" on Thursday that he expected the hostages to be released that day.

It comes as the United Nations aviation agency, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), said North Korea had requested new air routes to South Korea and that the regime's request was "under consideration".

He denied that he had requested the Pentagon to draw up options for withdrawing troops from South Korea.

"We now have a date".

But a spectacular detente in recent months has fed hopes of a historic turning point in the region, and an easing of decades of hostility between Pyongyang and Washington.

During the press conference, Trump was also asked about recent reports that three USA citizens now held in North Korea would soon be released, though his answer was light on detail. "As I said yesterday, stay tuned", Trump said, referring to an earlier tweet on the issue that has also weighed on U.S.
