For Trump, Giuliani adds toughness, star power to legal team

"It needs a little push", said the former NY mayor.

The president's newest attorney downplayed his role a bit after the news broke, emphasizing that his primary value-add is the relationship he developed with Mueller during their time together at DOJ.

Trump has had difficulty acquiring legal help. The notion that he will be able to quickly get a read on Mueller's team, said one source, is "not serious thinking".

The Republican mayor of NY from 1994 to 2001, Giuliani was also the chief federal prosecutor in Manhattan for much of the 1980s. Giuliani's arrival signals that something darker - perhaps something worse than the Mueller probe - could be lurking around the corner. "Can't say I didn't try!" says the man who would become president about the man who is now his attorney.

CNN legal analyst Laura Coates, on the other hand, argued that Giuliani won't be able to influence Mueller in the least. He also praised Mueller as fair, claiming, "Bob is the best we can do".

Trump's legal team has struggled to find additional lawyers and could use a new member.

"Jane and Marty are highly respected former federal prosecutors with decades of experience". Experts claimed Trump seemed like a tough client who does not pay heed to his lawyers' advice and some may fear potential conflict of interests, thus avoiding the job altogether.

"It's too early for me to say that", Giuliani replied, when asked whether a Trump interview is unlikely to happen.

"John Dowd left abruptly and put Sekulow in a hole".

-Giuliani has been working at the law firm Greenberg Traurig, a registered foreign agent for the government of Turkey, where he has been a senior adviser and head of the firm's cybersecurity, privacy and crisis management practice. Attorney Joanna Hendon is representing Trump in the case involving Michael Cohen in the Southern District of NY.

Former Big Apple mayor and presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani joined President Trump's legal team this week, vowing to end the special counsel's months-long Russian Federation probe within "a week or two".

Jay Sekulow, one of Trump's personal attorneys, confirmed the hire in a written statement that said in part, "The President said, 'Rudy is great".

Wall Street Journal: In an interview, Mr. Giuliani, a former US attorney for the Southern District of NY, said his first task after joining the team will be to "find out what Bob Mueller needs" to complete the investigation.
