Innovation was front and centre in the bilateral summit today, with a separate discussion focused entirely on this area, and the outcome being a joint declaration on a Sweden-India Innovation Partnership for a Sustainable Future, which built upon the joint statement between the two Prime Ministers in Mumbai in 2016.

Modi said that both sides also agreed to further strengthen security, especially cyber security cooperation. We have also reminded him of the commitments he gave British Sikhs in a meeting during his previous visit to address longstanding grievances of Sikhs community in the United Kingdom and across the world with India.

PM Modi and Swedish PM Stefan Lofven enjoyed a brief walk from Sager House to Rosenbad in Stockholm.

He said innovation, investment, start-ups, manufacturing etc.are the key aspects of cooperation between India and Sweden.

In the defence sector, Sweden has been India's partner from a long time. "We have made a decision to strengthen our cooperation in the security sector, particularly in cyber security". They are expected to discuss a road-map of cooperation in trade, science and technology, clean energy and smart cities.

Lofven announced a new innovation partnership worth 50 million kronor ($6 million) between the two countries that he said would be good "for job creation as well as for the climate". These include on cooperation in the field of sustainable and smart urban development, animal husbandry and dairying, food safety cooperation, and agricultural research and education with Denmark, and on the establishment of an ICCR Chair for Hindi Language with Iceland.
