KCR recalls Ambedkar's services on birth anniversary

Kolkata: Amid incidents of vandalism, security has been tightened in Uttar Pradesh ahead of birth anniversary celebrations of BR Ambedkar, the iconic leader who drafted India's constitution.

In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi said, "Paying rich tribute to Baba Saheb Ambedkar on his birth anniversary".

With Dalit politics taking a centre stage, all major political parties of Uttar Pradesh are gearing up to celebrate the 127th Birth Anniversary of Dr Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar with elan and project themselves as the true saviour of Dalits. A large numbers of people also visit local statues in all places to commemorate Ambedkar Jayanti by garlanding them.

The President said the book that he had been presented was a slim volume but covered the inspiring life of Dr Ambedkar and several dimensions of his ideas and personality. Appropriately, he is considered the Chief Architect of Indian Constitution which continues to be the guiding light for the Republic of India. It also referenced how Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had been inspired by the life and message of Dr Ambedkar.

The Congress, though, has termed the preparations as tokenism and said that the government failed to protect rights of the scheduled castes. "Pujya Babasaheb gave hope to lakhs of people belonging to the poorest and marginalised sections of society".

The event commenced at 8.00 am with a prayer song sung by the choir members followed by thought for the day by Vaishnavi Suresh of Class X and Significance of the Day by Sonali Umanath of Class X. Principal Fr Robert D'Souza, vice-principal Belita Mascarenhas along with the student representatives offered a floral tribute to Dr B R Ambedkar. He said the country remains indebted to Babasaheb for his efforts towards the making of our Constitution.
