Islamic Jihad members killed in Gaza 'work accident' blast

Official figures from Gaza Health Ministry show 32 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 3,000 others injured since the start of the six-week mass rally on March 30.

Medics at the scene in the Rafah area said four Palestinians were killed by an Israeli tank shell but an Israeli military spokesman said the army was not involved.

The military said a fire broke out near a security fence in the southern Gaza border and it was checking its cause, according to Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth.

Protests at Gaza Strip began on March 30 with more than 30,000 protesters and are expected to continue until April 19, Israel's Independence Day.

On Friday, a 28-year-old Palestinian man died and 233 were wounded by live Israeli fire as thousands of people gathered to protest along the eastern border of the Gaza Strip. He was later shifted to the al-Shifa Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Despite widespread outcry from worldwide rights groups who have condemned Israel's excessive use of forces against the civilian protesters, Israeli has maintained its open-fire rules for the Gaza border.

A Palestinian was killed and 968 others, including 54 children and 15 women, were injured in peace protests in Gaza on Saturday, Erekat noted.

That day will mark the 70th anniversary of Israel's establishment - an event Palestinians refer to as the "Nakba" or "Catastrophe".
