No-one expected painful Barca defeat, says Iniesta

Andres Iniesta may have played his last UEFA Champions League match for Barcelona after their 3-0 defeat to AS Roma on Tuesday, April 10 according to the Mirror. "We were hopeful of advancing to the semifinals after having played a great first leg".

Their failure to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League since their win in 2015 demonstrates as much, and prompted apologies from both Bartomeu and Valverde.

"Somehow or another, there has to be a rethink about player selection and player development at Football Club Barcelona because what happened last night was not a one-off".

'We looked at the game in the first leg... we've watched Barcelona for a number of months now and I'm not sure - even though they haven't conceded many - I'm not sure you cannot concede when you've got two strikers that don't put anything into defending.

"They (Roma) were strong, physical and we had a lot of problems". In a unprecedented turnaround, goals from Edin Dzeko, Danielle De Rossi and Kostas Manolas saw Roma beat Barcelona 3-0 and progress on away goals.

They lead Seville 2-1 heading into tonight's tie at the Allianz Arena.

"I would be lying if I said we could use this as a learning experience because past year we went out in a similar way", added Busquets.

Iniesta signed a "lifetime contract" with Barça as recently October, but it is increasingly expected that he will end his 22-year association with the club at the end of the season.

"They were very clear about how to attack us and we didn't find the solution".

With their continental exit, Barcelona are now in contention for silverware on two fronts-the Copa del Rey and the Spanish La Liga.

"And he let Messi know about it but the forward would also have been devastated as it now seriously hampers his chance of winning the Ballon d" Or.

The defeat came with Barca now on course to win La Liga and with a Copa del Rey final against Sevilla approaching later this month.
