"That's all it is, just having fun, just enjoying it".

It is the second time the 23-year-old Jokic has won the award this season after also doing so in the week ending November 12.

Mitchell has taken 1,327 shots in 77 games, compared with 983 in 79 games for Simmons.

"I really don't care", Mitchell told ESPN. "I thought it was something serious".

Jazz head coach Quin Snyder is happy that Mitchell broke the 3-pointer record, as he believes it makes his teammates better around him as well. However, I'll take Mitchell's tone off the floor every day of the week.

From the opening tip, Utah controlled the flow, taking a 33-16 first-quarter lead as the Warriors were playing without Steph Curry (left MCL sprain), Andre Iguodala (left knee soreness) and Patrick McCaw (lumbar spine contusion).

Mitchell was widely considered a steal after being selected with the No. 13 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, but most fans didn't expect him to be quite this productive this early.

Mitchell was solid at the start of this season but emerged as a starter and then the Jazz's go-to offensive threat. If that was true, he should have no competition for the Most Improved Player award. Jae Crowder ended with 11 points and six boards in 21 minutes.

This rookie race has caught the attention of major media outlets, and even National Basketball Association superstars, all chomping at the bit to give their opinion on who should win.

While for most, Simmons is the favorite with head coach Brett Brown calling him the "stone cold Rookie of the Year," Green recently threw his hat into the debate by picking Mitchell as his candidate exclusively because he is a "true rookie" with Simmons playing in his second season after missing the entire 2016-2017 season. "If his argument is I'm not a rookie, if that's the only argument he has", he said, "I'm in pretty good shape then".

Only six players have had the numbers Simmons has had in a season: Wilt Chamberlain, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, and Oscar Robertson, and only Robertson posted those numbers as a rookie.
