Russian Federation says Israel was behind Syria airstrike that killed 14

Russian Federation says Israel was behind Syria airstrike that killed 14

A total of four Iranian troops, allied with the Syrian government, were killed in a missile strike that targeted an air base in central Syria on Monday morning, semi-official Fars news agency reported.

According to the source, the Syrian air defense systems shot down eight missiles while repelling the attack.

"We express our readiness, after the liberation of Douma from militants, to immediately send Russian specialists in radiological, chemical and biological protection for the collection of data, that will confirm the fabricated character of these statements", Yevtushenko said.

The airstrikes come a day after a suspected chemical attack in Douma, a rebel-held area near Damascus, over the weekend.

The US and France threatened to respond to the alleged chemical attack, but deny striking the base, according to a BBC News report.

Pentagon officials say there is no truth to reports that the USA has launched an attack against Assad bases in Syria, Wall Street Journal's Dion Nissenbaum said in tweet.

The Pentagon said it wasn't conducting airstrikes, with a spokesman saying that "we continue to closely watch the situation".

"I have seen more compassion in [my Jewish neighbors in Antwerp] than in many Syrians we used to consider our brothers, and who are now bombing us with planes, missiles and tanks", said Aboud.

Israel has previously hit Syrian targets.

As President Trump warned Sunday of a "big price to pay" for yet another suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria, Russia declared that any foreign intervention could "lead to the most serious consequences".

Both the US and France had threatened a response over the suspected use of chemical weapons, with President Donald Trump and President Emmanuel Macron issuing a statement on Sunday vowing to "coordinate a strong, joint response".

"Through the relevant channels we already conveyed to the USA that armed force under mendacious pretext against Syria - where, at the request of the legitimate government of a country, Russian troops have been deployed - could lead to grave repercussions", he said. The vast majority aren't officially claimed by the Israeli military.

Syria initially said the West was involved.

Defence analysts say a number of Russian troops are also based there and jets fly regular sorties from T-4.

Trump has not left out anyone in the blame game against the president of Syria.

A defense force in Syria reported that several families were killed by poisonous gas in regions of Douma and Easter Ghouta while many more were hiding out and trying to escape being suffocated by the gas.

The fast-paced developments threatened to further hike tensions between the USA and Russian Federation, which has in the past warned against any US military action against President Bashar Assad's government.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Tuesday he is outraged by the reported attack, and that the use of chemical weapons would be a violation of global law.
