White House postpones Trump's summit with GCC leaders

Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter both skipped multiple correspondents' dinners, but after Reagan's assassination attempt, United States presidents attended every dinner for 36 consecutive years.

This year, the dinner will honor Maggie Haberman of The New York Times, who Trump called "a Hillary flunky" who didn't know anything about him.

Talev confirmed in a statement following the interview that Trump would not be attending "Nerd Prom", but is sending his chief spokeswoman.

Now, he's saying that he will skip the traditional Correspondents' Dinner, sending White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in his place.

"I sort of feel that the press is so bad", he said.

Trump, who has repeatedly criticized the media and accused outlets of pushing "fake news", told NY radio station 77 WABC that he did not plan on attending the annual event.

US President Donald Trump will again snub an annual dinner celebrating the White House press corp, continuing a boycott that began in his first year of office. "They make up the sources".

More news: Chilly weather on the way

"I just think that I want to get it straightened out with the press before I do it", he said.

President Donald Trump will refuse to participate in the annual event, making this the second time he does so.

White House staff members also did not attend the 2017 event out of reported "solidarity" with the president.

The president, a well-known critic of mainstream media, has recently intensified his attacks on news outlets like The Washington Post.

The then-reality TV star was a proponent of the "birther" conspiracy theory that then-President Obama was not born in the U.S.

Last month, the President attended the exclusive Gridiron Club dinner, dining with a small group of top Washington reporters and cracking self-deprecating jokes. Sanders faces the media in most of the daily briefings at the White House. "I'm very excited to come here and ruin your evening in person".
