Trump Tower fire: 1 killed; talks over United States president's sprinkler-free building

'Fire at Trump Tower is out.

Footage posted on social media showed flames and a vast amount of smoke billowing from one of the windows of the skyscraper. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

The official Twitter account of the New York Police Department, NYPD News, advised that the roads near the Trump Tower, particularly in the area of 5th Avenue and West 57 Street, would be closed to prioritize responding emergency vehicles.

No members of the First Family were present at the time, according to the Secret Service.

The president who famously owns the glitzy Fifth Avenue residential-and-retail skyscraper that bears his name, tweeted his thanks to New York's firefighters. President Trump's focal point Manhattan high-rise building opened in 1984, however does not have sprinklers on its domestic floorings, a step needed in brand-new structures considering that 1999.

Nigro described the apartment where the fire began as "quite large" and containing "quite a lot of furniture", which led to its spread. Firemen (and women) did a great job.

The FDNY said that six firefighters suffered injuries. "THANK YOU!" Mr Trump tweeted.

The cause of the fire is now unknown, but according to the New York City Fire Department, the fire was centered in a single large apartment, where they found one critically injured resident.

Sprinklers are not installed on the Trump Tower floor where a fire broke out on Saturday. Four firefighters were injured and Brassner, 67, was pronounced dead in hospital, according to the New York Times.

Nigro said the fire broke out at around 5:30 p.m. Fire engines and ladders were there within five minutes.

NY fire commissioner Donald Nigro said the 50th floor apartment was "virtually entirely on fire". A minor fire also occurred on the building's roof three months ago.

"It was a very awful experience. there was no evacuation system in place. we were at a loss of what to do", she said. The headquarters of the Trump Organisation is on the 26th floor. "All we could do is put wet towels under the door and pray".
