Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Nepalese Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli, in India's capital, New Delhi on Saturday.

This will enable cost effective and efficient movement of cargo and greatly impact the growth of business and economy of Nepal. "We have strong relations when it comes to the aspect of defence and security and are committed towards stopping misuse of our open borders".

Stating Nepal "wants to have trust-based relationship" with India, Oli said the objective of his visit was to explore ways to enhance cooperation to newer heights.

Earlier, during his meeting with Oli, President Ram Nath Kovind said India's interest lies in the stability and economic growth of Nepal and for that New Delhi is ready to expand cooperation as per its priorities.

Prime Minister Oli stated that his government attaches high importance to further strengthening friendly relations with India.

The Prime Minister said, there is a long history of India's contribution in Nepal's development and assured that it will continue in future. They are more developed and more advanced than us. "Neighbourhood realities make peaceful coexistence, based on the principles of equality, justice, mutual respect and benefits a necessity for shared destiny", Oli said in the statement in presence of Modi. This came after acrimony between India and Nepal over its 2015 constitution that seemed to marginalise some 51% of the country's population and bestow extra political rights and privileges on the hill tribes constituting 49% of the population.

Viewed as an important visit amidst a strain in ties, Oli has flow a 54-member high-level delegation to India, seeking more investment from India's public as well as private sector.
