63-year-old Senator Mustapha Bukar dies after illness

He was aged 63.

Kanta Bukar, the younger brother of the deceased, confirmed the death and said Mr Bukar died in the early hours of Wednesday at the Nizamiyya hospital, Abuja.

Bukar was survived by two wives and 12 children, including Ibrahim Bukar of the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC).

"I pray that the Almighty Allah, in his infinite grace, grant the dear and departed senator a place among the righteous ones in Aljannah firdaus", Saraki said.

It was learned that the APC senator returned to Nigeria in March after spending one month in the United Kingdom for medical treatment.

In a statement by his Senior Special Adviser on Media, Abdu Labaran, he described the late lawmaker as "a worthy son and representative of Katsina State, who had given a good account of himself in the Senate".

According to Daily Trust, the senator died at about 10am on Wednesday after a brief illness.

"As a first-time lawmaker, Senator Bukar stood out for the quality of his contributions on the floor, his pragmatism and his work to strengthen the institution of the legislature". He graduated in 1973. He graduated with a Bachelors in 1978.

Until his death, Senator Bukar was the Senator representing Katsina State.

After the National Youth Service, he worked as project manager for the Kaduna State Water Board and later as general manager.
