Russian spy: Source of nerve agent 'not identified'

Russian spy: Source of nerve agent 'not identified'

'Okay, you expel diplomats, we expel diplomats, you further expel, what's the next step, the breach of the diplomatic relations...

Prior to Friday's expulsions, the Kremlin announced that 60 U.S. diplomats would be kicked out of the country, and the USA consulate in St. Petersburg shut in retaliation for a similar step by Washington, which said Monday it would be expelling the same number of Russian diplomats and closing the Russian consulate in Seattle.

Yury Filatov held a media briefing on Tuesday at the Russian embassy in Dublin to provide an update on the poisoning incident last month.

Britain has blamed Russian Federation for the March 4 nerve agent attack, sparking a series of tit-for-tat explusions of diplomats by Britain and its allies as well as Moscow.

The Russian president also says Moscow would demand to be part of such an investigation.

Porton Down chief executive Gary Aitkenhead said Tuesday that scientists at the lab "have not verified the precise source, but we provided the scientific information to the government who have then used a number of other sources to piece together the conclusions that they have come to".

Russian officials and state television have in turn come up with several different theories to explain the poisoning.

'The United States is saying the pressure will continue.

Russian Federation denies responsibility and has suggested the poison may have come from Britain.

"It's a military grade nerve agent which requires extremely sophisticated methods in order to create - something that's probably only within the capabilities of a state actor". Police said they had been exposed to a nerve agent.

"The March 4 attack on Skripal and his daughter in the English city of Salisbury has triggered a wave of tit-for-tat expulsions of diplomats between the West and Russian Federation and sent relations plunging to new post-Cold War lows".

Mr Lavrov said it was "outrageous" that Britain had failed to provide consular access to Yulia Skripal, 33, since it emerged that her condition was improving.

It was "not our job to say where it was manufactured", he added. "Any requests for new diplomatic accreditation will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis".

The March 4 poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the English city of Salisbury sent shockwaves across Europe.

The assertion that the Kremlin's fingerprints are on the attack echoes what the United States said regarding the 2016 hacking of the Democratic National Committee blamed on hackers tied to Russian intelligence. British authorities suspect Skripal was poisoned by a Soviet-made nerve agent.

Moscow's deputy foreign minister, Alexander Grushko, said on Tuesday that the poisonings may have been set up by the United Kingdom to justify an increase in military spending.
