Indore building collapse: FIR against hotel owner after 10 people die

As many as ten people died while three are critically injured as a four-storey building collapsed near Sarwate bus stand in Madhya Pradesh's Indore around 10 on Saturday night.

The reason for its sudden collapse is not clear and the police were investigating the matter.

"Many people are feared trapped under the debris of the collapsed hotel".

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has tweeted that he is keeping a close watch on the rescue operations.

The civic commissioner said this version could not be ruled out as of now and a detailed investigation was on into it.

The incident took place at around 9:17 pm when a vehicle crashed into a weight-bearing pillar on the front portion of the hotel building.

Building collapses are common in India as builders try to cut corners by using substandard materials, and as multi-story structures are erected with inadequate supervision. A magisterial inquiry has also been ordered into the incident. The identities of the other six deceased, including the two women, were yet to be established.
