Iran's Revolutionary Guards Deny Giving Missiles to Houthis

Yemen's defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the Saudi-led coalition for three years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Maliki told a news conference in Riyadh that Sunday's missile attacks were a clear violation of global law and accused the Houthis of smuggling weapons from Iran.

Le Drian's comments come just days before an official visit to France by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

He said that the port of Hodeidah has become the main point of smuggling ballistic missiles and other weapons into Yemen.

A photo distributed by the Houthi Military Media Unit shows the launch by Houthi forces of a ballistic missile aimed at Saudi Arabia on March 25, 2018.

Amnesty International last week said the shipments by France, along with the United States and Britain, had contributed to the deaths of thousands of civilians in attacks by coalition forces.

Le Drian insisted Thursday that the weapon sales complied with worldwide law.

However, the French minister said: "We have a very rigorous framework on weapon exports which we adhere to with great vigilance".

About 10,000 Yemenis have been killed and 53,000 wounded since the start of the coalition intervention in Yemen.

Britain, France and Germany proposed the new sanctions earlier this month in an effort to assuage US President Donald Trump, who is demanding actions against Iran that, in his view, close loopholes in the 2015 agreement governing its nuclear work.

On the question of how these missiles are being smuggled into Yemen, Col. Al-Malki stressed that the smuggling of missiles did not start from Iran, but from the southern suburb of Beirut, where they were transported via Syria to Iran and then dispatched by sea by the so-called mother boat or ship to Yemen.

Le Drian said Thursday that Macron was still planning to visit Russia in May "for the time being", despite rapidly deteriorating relations between Moscow and the West over the poisoning of a former Russian double agent in Britain.
