First ever non-stop flight from Australia lands in London

Aboard the flight, Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said the carrier was interested in making Paris the next destination it services non-stop, having been granted regulatory approval to fly to the French capital daily from Perth.

If you get fidgety on long flights but have no option but to travel, there is some good news - especially for air travellers between Australia and England.

The first scheduled non-stop flight between Australia and the United Kingdom has touched down in London's Heathrow Airport, the BBC News reported on Sunday.

The airline is using the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for the 17 hour flight which will cover 9,009-mile over the course of the journey.

This will eventually include non-stop flights from Australia's eastern seaboard to Europe in an effort dubbed "Project Sunrise". "We are so excited".

It is hoped that these kinds of services will encourage more people to travel to the likes of Sydney and Melbourne, with the Western Australian government keen to attract more tourists to the region.

Western Australia's premier, Mark McGowan, was among more than 200 passengers to arrive on the flight.

The route is 24% further than the UK's previous longest service, which flew 7,275 miles, between Heathrow and Jakarta.

Auckland is also the origin of Emirates Airline Flight 449, with Airbus A380 superjumbos travelling almost 14,200km to Dubai.

In a Twitter post, Qantas said the flight was led by Captain Lisa Norman, Captain Jeff Foote, First Officer Dave Summergreene and Second Officer Troy Lane.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner had more than han 230 passengers and 16 crew on board. Mr Joyce hailed the new route as a "game changer".

The longest flights operating today pale in comparison with Singapore Airlines Flight 22. Joyce has issued a challenge to both Boeing and Airbus to produce a plane capable of flying nonstop from Sydney to London and to NY.

In 2017, United Airlines launched a route from Los Angeles to Singapore, offering the longest-distance non-stop flight available from the US.
