Expect a New Audi Model Every 3 Weeks in 2018

In terms of how it looks, it seems Audi isn't following Jaguar's design lead by making the Gran Turismo look very different to conventional cars, but is following the tradition GT long-bonnet route, and the interior will doubtless feature a new version of Audi's very good i-cockpit and a plethora of big screens. The e-tron will be produced completely CO2-neutral at the converted Brussels plant where also the model's batteries will be assembled. The Tesla Model X electric CUV is priced from €96,250 ($118,600) in Germany.

Production plans for the vehicle were announced during the German automaker's 2018 annual news conference in Ingolstadt, Germany, where Stadler confirmed it as one of three all-electric models being developed and planned for launch by Audi by the start of the next decade. If that small wording is any indication of the bullheaded approach that Audi and its parent company is taking into the future, other key players in electric mobility should watch out. A model such as the diesel-electric plug-in Q7 e-tron might have to drop its existing badging in favor of some sort of new model code, but although Glaser admits something has to be done, he didn't make any suggestion as to what that will be. Audi Sport will be jumping into the mix as well, with its own performance-oriented EV in the coming years - the Audi e-tron GT.

"We interpret sportiness very progressively with our fully electric e-tron GT", said Audi board chairman Rupert Stadler, "And this is how we will take our high-performance brand Audi Sport into the future". Stadler said Audi plans a fifth electric auto that would either be an SUV or "sports activity vehicle".

That suggests the future Audi e-tron GT may be low in volume but high in performance.

The e-tron rides on an adaptation of Audi's MLB architecture for gasoline cars, called MLB-Evo, while the Porsche Mission E rides on a dedicated platform called P1. Furthermore, all core model series will be equipped at least with mild hybrids.
