United faces criminal probe into dog's death in overhead cabin

United faces criminal probe into dog's death in overhead cabin

To be fair, United is also the largest transporter of animals among US carriers. She found Kokito dead inside the carrier when the flight landed in NY.

On United Flight 1284 from Houston to NY on Monday, a woman who was flying with children and a small dog was pressured by a flight attendant to put her dog in overhead storage during the 3-1/2 hour flight.

"The passenger adamantly refused but the flight attendant went on with the instruction", passenger Maggie Gremminger wrote.

At the end of the flight, when Robledo retrieved her dog, who was heard barking at least 30 minutes into the flight, she discovered her pet had died during the trip. "Anytime an animal suffers an injury or dies in our care, we are devastated", spokesman Charlie Hobart said. "He was a member of our family. Frankly, they shouldn't be placed in the cargo hold much less an overhead bin", the missive reads.

The passenger had apparently paid $125 in order to carry the puppy in the cabin with her.

Just 24 hours after apologizing for what happened to one family's dog on a plane, United Airline now making yet another mistake. As we stated, we take full responsibility and are deeply sorry for this tragic accident. "We are thoroughly investigating what occurred to prevent this from ever happening again".

How a trained flight attendant could insist that a dog be put into an overhead bin is beyond my comprehension.

"We were gonna put him under the seat and then the flight attendants came, she said, 'You have to put him up there because it's going to block the path.' And we're like, 'It's a dog, it's a dog.' And she's like, 'It doesn't matter you still have to put it up there, '" Ceballos said on Good Morning America. The bags will be rolled out by April. A spokesperson for Southwest told the Washington Post that the girl received a minor scrape on her forehead from the bite and was treated by paramedics, who also cleared the child to return to the flight.

According to United passenger Catalina Robledo, the flight attendant told her she would have to put Kokito into the storage bin above the seats because his carrier was sticking into the aisle.

United acknowledged Wednesday that the customer said there was a dog in the carrier.

Several high-profile incidents of animal deaths and misplacements on United flights have plagued the airline over the a year ago, including the death of a giant rabbit on one of its flights last July and a dog that died in a plane cargo hold in August.
