2018 free agency: Raiders showing interest in Richard Sherman

The four-time All-Pro cornerback, who was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, is scheduled to meet with the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Seattle Seahawks' Richard Sherman (25) eats turkey during a TV interview on the field after the San Francisco 49ers' lost 19-3 in their National Football League game against Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014.

In fact, The Athletic first reported that Sherman had dinner with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan on Friday night. That could go to bringing in a player like Sherman, though all that would change if the team inks Johnson, who appears to be their main target this free agency season. Sherman's free agency will be complex as he is coming off of a serious Achilles injury, and he'll turn 30 years old before the beginning of next season.

Even if Sherman does not sign with the 49ers immediately it seems pretty clear a return to the Seahawks on a lesser deal than he had isn't first on Sherman's agenda. Sherman went viral in January 2014 for using that same quote, which comes from Game of Thrones.

Sherman had surgery to fix his right Achilles in November.

But Sherman said at the Sports Star awards he thought he would be ready for the beginning of mini-camp. The team has a talented corner in Darius Slay. This will be an ongoing process and I am excited to take on this challenge.

Sherman has been a free agent for less than 24 hours. Since 2011, no player has more interceptions (32) or passes defensed (99) than Sherman, according to NFL Research.
