Partygoer Jailed for Stealing Oscar from Frances McDormand

Partygoer Jailed for Stealing Oscar from Frances McDormand

The 60-year-old actress won the coveted golden statuette for Actress in a Leading Role at this year's Academy Awards on Sunday for her role as Mildred Hayes in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri".

If convicted of his charge, Bryant could face up to three years in jail, the district attorney's office said.

Brazil said she was concerned by Bryant's four prior felony convictions on theft-related charges and his past failures to appear in court, which prosecutors argued should keep the bail unchanged.

He was flanked by Bryant's rabbi, Naomi Levy, who described him as a "sweet, gentle man of faith".

The Best Actress accolade was stolen shortly after McDormand's win at the Academy Awards on Sunday.

"There's a big difference between holding an Oscar and what he's charged with", Brookman said after the hearing. McDormand allegedly said to let the thief go but security turned him in to Los Angeles police. "And (director) Alejandro Inarritu was with me and he started interrogating him about recharging stations - I thought, 'This is a good party!'"

He followed Bryant out of the party "and without any resistance from Bryant took the Oscar from him", the statement said. While Frances happily celebrated her night with her son Pedro Coen at The Governor's Ball afterparty, pictured above, there was one point when Frances actually thought she might go home empty-handed.

The criminal complaint filed against Bryant lists both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and McDormand as victims of the theft.

The man has been identified as Terry Bryant Djmatari, who even posted a video of himself with the Oscar on Facebook. "Every part of this day is emblazoned into my mind", Janney tells Spencer then picks up her glass of champagne and adds, "Yes, I wanna remember, have a little bit of this just to enhance it".

According to Variety and The Verge, "My team got this tonight", Bryant says in the video, which is no longer available on Facebook.
