Int'l Women's Day Thursday

Indeed, it suggests that while having a confident personality boosts men's chances of job promotion by 3.3%, women gain no sizeable benefit.

The campaign theme continues all year with March 8 simply the kickoff for the campaign.

The beauty of International Women's Day lies in the fact that it is not limited to any particular group or any one cause.

Sound and Music has launched a month-long programme ahead of International Women's Day (IWD) this Thursday, aimed at opening up the debate and championing female composers.

Purple is used to symbolise International Women's Day, but historically it was green, white and purple; purple to symbolise dignity, white for purity and green for hope. The day includes rallies, performances, networking events and marches that take place all over the world.

This modern interpretation of Judy Chicago's 1979 feminist piece "The Dinner Party", will take place at 7 p.m.at New York City Baha'i Center (53 E. 11th St.) and is "a celebration of women and vaginas throughout herstory" featuring spoken word artists, music, food and more. From 1910 to 1917, IWD observances were held in Denmark, Germany, Finland, Austria, and Russian Federation, among other places, mainly as the result of union and social democratic party activism. 1975 was a red-letter year in the history of IWD as the year was observed as the International Women's Year by the United Nations. This theme surely conveys an idea and make a move towards the gender equality among individuals.

It's also interesting to note that there is a competing global IWD campaign, supported not by the United Nations but by a conglomerate of corporate and non-governmental organizations.

It is time for men to march with the women in their life and support the fight for equality and equal pay.

Women in Latin America are aware that progress toward justice is hard won, and that there is much work left to be done.
