Brighton Beat Arsenal 2-1 To Heap The Pressure On Arsene Wenger

Arsenal are in danger of missing out on Champions League football for the second season running.

Wenger also blamed "heavy legs" for Arsenal's poor first-half performance, as they went 2-0 down within 30 minutes after goals from Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray.

Brighton's opener came from a set piece, with an inswinging corner from the left finding Shane Duffy - who beat Petr Cech in the air - and the ball was knocked down for Dunk to fire a shot into the roof of the net on the half-volley.

Wenger has given no indication that he will be stepping aside any time soon, but if that decision is taken out of his hands then Arsenal will be in the market for a new boss for the first time in 22 years.

Brighton & Hove Albion move into the top 10 of the Premier League table courtesy of a 2-1 win over Arsenal in Sunday's clash at the Amex Stadium.

Murray's header, his sixth goal in 2018, put Brighton two up after a mistake by Laurent Koscielny, prompting an angry response from the travelling supporters.

It was almost 2-0 minutes later as Gross sent Cech sprawling to save at his near post, and Dunk headed over after 18 minutes from another corner by Gross.

Wenger made three changes, bringing in Jack Wilshere for Aaron Ramsey, Calum Chambers for Hector Bellerin and Alex Iwobi for Danny Welbeck. With 26 minutes gone, they gifted the home side their second goal.

"We are definitely hitting our best form at the right time", Brighton manager Chris Hughton said.

Koscielny nearly levelled the match just before the break, rattling the left-hand post with a firm header, and only a flying Ryan save stopped Mesut Ozil blasting home just before the hour mark.

"We want Wenger out", came the cry from the away end but Arsenal did improve as the half wore on and they got themselves back into the game when Aubameyang flicked home Granit Xhaka's cross.

Arsenal continued to press after the interval, with Mathew Ryan forced into a fine save to deny Mesut Ozil.

The result is certain to pile more pressure on Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, who was the subject of angry chants from visiting fans demanding his departure.

Aubameyang almost got his second goal for the Gunners in the 63rd minute with a header inside the box, but goalkeeper Mathew Ryan made a comfortable save.
