Tiger Woods to play Valspar Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational

Tiger Woods to play Valspar Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational

The four-time Masters victor announced Friday that before he heads to Magnolia Lane he will start two PGA Tour events - next week's Valspar Championship, which he has never played, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he owns eight of his 79 tour victories.

"He's close to winning a golf tournament", said former PGA Tour victor and Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee.

It means Woods will now join Rory McIlroy who will also be contesting the Valspar Championship for a first time and in what will be McIlroy's sixth event ahead of the Masters. "The more I play tournament golf, the better I'll get at it".

Woods has said he needs more "tournament reps" to be ready for the Masters but eligibility issues will limit the number of events he can play between now and April. The Copperhead course is regarded by some players as one of the best tournament layouts in Florida because of the hilly terrain, tree-lined fairways and water that comes into play only on seven of the 18 holes.

Woods shot even par last week at PGA National to place solo 12th in the Honda Classic, by far his most promising tournament start since 2015.

Tiger Woods is scheduled to make his first Masters start since 2013 this spring.

At the time Woods said that he felt instant relief and that he wasn't done competing or winning. That was the goal when I first came back.

He was, however, widely expected to be at Bay Hill for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he claimed eight of his 79 Tour victories. "And I feel like I'm right on track for that".

"I feel like I've really hit the ball well", Woods said after the Honda Classic.

Feherty, now a Golf Channel analyst, has assessed the American's recent form, posture, and swing, and believes the 42-year-old has rediscovered his swagger.
