Boston Herald Apologizes For 'Erroneous Report' On Brady's Contract

The Boston Herald announced Friday that long-time Boston sportswriter Ron Borges' "column has been suspended" in the wake of a story on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady that has since been acknowledged as false. Citing unnamed "sources close to" Brady, he is "ready to sit out all of this year's offseason organized team activities unless he receives a contract extension that carries with it up-front money similar to what his former protege, Jimmy Garoppolo, will receive from the San Francisco 49ers".

A Patriots fan named "Nick in Boston" called into WEEI's "Kirk & Callahan Show" on Friday morning to explain how he pulled off the prank.

The Yee impersonator also purportedly said that "12 was not going to return unless McDaniels was named the head coach in waiting", which also made it into Borges' column.

Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston's reported that Brady's reported demand is inaccurate.

Only one problem - it looks as if Borges based the premise of his column on hoax texts sent to him purporting to be from Brady's agent Don Yee.

Borges' column was printed in Friday's Herald.

WEEI caller "Nick in Boston" said on the air this morning that he saw Borges' phone number on Twitter and texted him with a message claiming to be Don Yee, the agent for both Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo.

Sando had posted his piece to an online notes-sharing network used by Borges and other sports reporters nationwide.

Borges' column has been suspended pending further review.
