Bulls Trade Jameer Nelson to Pistons for Willie Reed

Bulls Trade Jameer Nelson to Pistons for Willie Reed

Though his name is bigger than his current production, Nelson should be a solid addition for a Pistons team that's thin at point guard due to Reggie Jackson's injury. Nelson - who, like Reed, is on an expiring minimum contract - provided nothing to tanking Chicago.

What did the Pistons get from this trade? He was acquired by the Pistons from the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the Blake Griffin deal on January 29. Detroit (27-26) has won five games in a row since the Griffin deal. Selected 20th overall in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Nuggets, Nelson was part of a draft-day trade that sent him to the Magic where he played 10 seasons, including from 2007-12 for head coach Stan Van Gundy. This time, they dealt away journeyman point guard Jameer Nelson to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for center Willie Reed, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Taking the Griffin deal into account, the Pistons in essence traded Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, a first-round pick in 2018 and a second-round pick in 2019 for Griffin, Ennis and Nelson, while swapping second-round picks in 2022 with the Bulls. With the Pistons sending out Boban Marjanovic in the Blake Griffin has been the de facto backup center with originally Reed slated to spell some minutes from him going forward, but now Griffin will need to take on the majority of the workload.

Ennis, 27, is in his fourth National Basketball Association season, averaging 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in his career.

The Detroit Pistons just keep making moves. Nelson averaged 5.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists over 43 games this season with the Pelicans.

Ennis has found a regular role with the Grizzlies over the last two seasons after spending time bouncing between the National Basketball Association and D-League prior to that.
