Battle for Azeroth Set to Release This Summer

Battle for Azeroth Set to Release This Summer

Some 13 years after it originally released in 2004, World of Warcraft continues to release new expansions. Those who pre-order will also get first access to four new playable "Allied Races", including Void Elves, Lightforged Draenei, Highmountain Tauren and Nightborne. Once you have completed a few Alliance quests and earned yourself the respect of an Allied Race, you will unlock the ability to use that race in character creation.

Battle for Azeroth is set to launch on or before 21 September 2018. You can be Exalted with the Highmountain Tauren as a member of the Alliance for example, but you can't start the recruitment quest.

You'll also be granted a level-110 character boost immediately to get you all prepared for the upcoming war between the Horde and Alliance. There's also two versions of the expansion competing for your cash: The Digital Deluxe Edition and the Standard Edition, which retail for £52.99 and £39.99, respectively.

However, just because the Allied Races are now available doesn't mean they're accessible to everyone.

Pre-orders for the game are already live, and the stampede to get them has caused trouble with Blizzard's purchasing servers across multiple games, as I discovered last night while playing Hearthstone.

The Battle of Azeroth features two new Kingdoms (Zandalar and Kul Tiras), the aforementioned recruitment of Allied Races, a new area called Islands of the Great Sea where you can meet new enemies and battle in groups of three, a 20-player cooperative called the Warfront inspired by the RTS days of Warcraft, new material to infuse your armor with called Azerite, and finally an all new level cap at 120.

Ride proudly astride the Seabraid Stallion mount as you fight for the Alliance, or prove your allegiance to the Horde with the Gilded Ravasaur mount. This includes a Hearthstone card back, StarCraft 2 sprays, a Heroes of the Storm mount, plus voice lines and player icons in Overwatch.

As you can tell from the epic cinematic trailer, Battle for Azeroth will focus on the ongoing conflict between the Alliance and Horde.
