Elon Musk company selling $500 flamethrowers

That means The Boring Company has sold at least $3.5 million worth of its new product.

In one post, Musk noted that he wants "to be clear that a flamethrower is a super awful idea".

Just to be safe Musk is also selling "an overpriced Boring Company fire extinguisher", for $30 which is about £22. The user found a pre-order prompt for a $600 flamethrower instead of a $20 hat.

Musk, who posted sales updates on Twitter through the weekend, was riding a high when he debunked any rumours that he's secretly creating a zombie apocalypse to generate demand for the flamethrowers.

When we first saw the gun we thought it was a joke but according to CNN not only is it real but it's Musk's way of securing funding for The Boring Company.

If you're wondering whether there's a market for flamethrowers these days, the boundary-pushing entrepreneur may have just proved that there is. Either that, or Musk knows something about some sort of flammable C.H.U.D. creatures thanks to the folks at The Boring Company.

From The Boring Co. - which began after Musk's Twitter rant about Los Angeles vehicle traffic - selling 50,000 company hats, Musk has built a reputation for spouting tomfoolery and then following through on it.

The flamethrower's description on The Boring Company website states: "Guaranteed to liven up any party!". A screenshot posted on Twitter indicates that Musk and Co. plan to sell the fire-wielding device for $600.

Elon Musk has dispelled a freakish rumour about the flamethrowers his company has just put up for sale. Should you order one of these devices, you most likely will not be committing a crime. Tesla, one of Musk's other businesses, has made a common practice of taking pre-orders for cars before they ship, including sizable up-front down payments (which are still small compared to the total cost of the car).

So, remember The Boring Company and those branded caps they were selling last December?
