United must part with Mkhitaryan if it must sign Sanchez - Wenger

The Chile global, who has moved to Old Trafford in a swap deal that sees Henrikh Mkhitaryan head in the opposite direction, used his personal Instagram account to declare his appreciation for those he'd "shared many nice things for the club" during his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Britain's Mirror newspaper said Sanchez was due to arrive in Manchester with agent Fernando Felicevich, with a medical scheduled for Sunday afternoon, while Sky reported that Mkhitaryan would have a medical in London.

Sanchez's future has always been a hot topic in the Premier League, with Manchester City almost snatching him from Arsenal for a figure thought to be £60 million (A$104 million) in August.

United hijacked the bid from Manchester City with a more lucrative offer for the Chilean, but Wenger admitted that he "cannot understand" the 29-year-old's desire to leave the Emirates Stadium.

Sanchez's move is not expected to be officially announced until Monday, with the complications that have delayed the deal for almost a week were down to the complications of the swap, as well as Mkhitaryan's demands.

Media reports in England claim Arsenal's position remains unchanged from when Wenger said he expected the transfer to happen during his news conference following the Palace game.

Along with Chelsea, United have the stingiest defence in the division - each have conceded just 16 goals - and Smalling credited Mourinho's work in forming that solid base following the 1-0 win over the Clarets on Saturday. "He's a really good player and I think he will be a good addition, really good".

However, now that he is Old Trafford-bound, Wenger seems to be optimistic for the future.

"Now that I'm here, I'll do my best for this club to create history", he said.

Mourinho said: "Alexis is one of the best attacking players in the world and he will complete our very young and talented group of attacking players".

Arsene Wenger has taken a swipe at Manchester City by suggesting that he respected rivals Manchester United as they pay their players with their "own resources". That tells you we had no chance to give him a contract.
