Pakistan police have arrested a man from Kasur town of Punjab province for allegedly raping and murdering eight minors, including a seven-year-old, whose killing had triggered violent protests in the country. And today, after 14 days, we have arrested the culprit.

He said that the case will be prosecuted in an anti-terrorism court (ATC), and assured that all legal formalities will be completed.

The rape and murder of Zainab Ansari was the 12th such case in Kasur district in the a year ago, according to local media reports. The post-mortem report revealed that she was raped before being murdered.

The police nonetheless carried out a raid at the suspect's house where a black jacket with a similar design was found. Imran was eventually arrested as an accused after his DNA matched with the sample collected from the site where Zainab's body was dumped.

TV channels aired the photo alongside pictures of her lifeless body abandoned on a heap of garbage in her home city of Kasur.

The Punjab government had set up Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the rape and murder of Zainab. After that he shaved his beard off so that no one could recognise him'.

Zainab's rape and murder shattered the entire nation, triggering widespread public outrage with people from all walks of life demanding an exemplary capital punishment for the perpetrator. The locals said the accused used to stay aloof.

The police also arrested four other persons on the information provided by the accused.

The Punjab government spokesperson Malik Ahmed Khan said the accused had been arrested from near Pakpattan.

Zainab's sister Laiba spoke to Geo News, and said if Imran was the real murderer then he should be publicly hanged.

Zainab's brother, Abu Bakar said that the culprit should be given an exemplary sentence so that others like him get a message. According to her family members Zainab case had been registered as missing but the police treated the case traditionally till her body was found in a rubbish pile further the case went viral in media.

Nawaz Sharif, meanwhile, issued a brief message wherein he commended Punjab Police and Shahbaz Sharif on nabbing the killer of Zainab.
