Top SC recruit Williamson chooses Duke over Clemson, USC

Top SC recruit Williamson chooses Duke over Clemson, USC

After announcing his decision, Williamson explained why he picked Duke over other schools like Kentucky and North Carolina. Williamson was offered full rides from prominent basketball colleges like Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA, and Baylor - but the 6'6, 270 lb Spartanburg, South Carolina native chose to stay closer to home.

So which school will win out in the Williamson sweepstakes? "Coach K (Mike Krzyzewski), he's just the most legendary coach to ever coach college basketball and I feel like going to Duke University I can learn a lot from him in my time there". He made several unofficial visits to Clemson and SC. He's a dump truck running downhill in the open floor and the most explosive leaper in the high school game who is both quick off his feet and able to elevate through contact easily. "I think middle school is where you develop your best friends and stuff like that, so I just miss it". Williamson is rated as high as the No. 2 prospect in the country and the No. 1 power forward.

It's official: Zion Williamson has made his pick to play college ball.

Williamson, who is known for his high-flying dunks, was also considering in-state schools Clemson and SC before committing to a blue-blood program. Sports Illustrated recently published a lengthy feature about the high school senior. Williamson was also thought to be a strong candidate to remain in his home state and commit to either SC or Clemson.

Many thought Williamson would land at Clemson, as the Tigers had gained ground and seemed to be the favorites to land the powerful lefty. Also his stepfather, Lee Anderson, played for Clemson.
