Joel Embiid celebrates All-Star nod by brushing off Rihanna

Joel Embiid celebrates All-Star nod by brushing off Rihanna

Joel of Embiid, inspired by the hit to the all-star game, gave one of the best matches in the season, and his team defeated the leader of the conference and returned to the area playoffs.

But Embiid's amusing dismissal of entertaining a possible date with the Bad Gal didn't stop his fans from bombarding Rihanna's social media accounts with hilarious reactions.

Needless to say, that was a welcome return to form for Embiid after he averaged 13.0 points on 30.3 percent shooting in his first two appearances against the Celtics earlier this season. Thursday night in Boston against the Celtics marked his 32nd game of the season, rendering his first all-star berth more than a little bit poetic. But Embiid, sharing some wishful thinking, hopes that in the fairly near future he'll be playing every game.

Back in 2014, the Kansas product fired off multiple tweets in an attempt to woo the "Disturbia" artist. The all-star reserves, selected by the league's coaches, will be announced January 25.

"I mean, she denied me back then, so ... why go with her again?"

In the West, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins were the selections in the frontcourt, while Steph Curry and James Harden were selected as guards. Kyrie Irving was announced as one of the Eastern Conference starters, along with team captain Lebron James, DeMar DeRozan, Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The reserves are voted in by the NBA's head coaches, as opposed to the starters who are voted in by a combination of fan votes (50 per cent), National Basketball Association media (25 per cent) and National Basketball Association players (25 per cent).

Embiid has scored in double figures in 46 consecutive games, the longest streak by a Philadelphia player in the past five seasons. His 16 points came on seven-of-16 shooting, but he went 0 for four from three-point range and two for eight from the free-throw line.

Sixers rookie Ben Simmons was also an all-star-starter candidate. That Embiid tweet was sent around the time that the 76ers big man was furiously pursuing the female pop star, both publicly and privately.
