Without Sanchez, Arsenal loses 2-1 to Bournemouth in EPL

There are a couple ways to observe Arsene Wenger's comments following Arsenal's 2-1 loss at Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Gunners defeat means they are still yet to win in 2018, and have only take maximum points from three out of 12 Premier League fixtures this season.

It was another poor performance from the Gunners who were without both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil as both of their futures at the club appear to be very unclear.

"Half in, half out", Wenger said of Sanchez's current position at Arsenal.

There were a couple of chances for either side in the opening exchanges, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles coming closest in the eighth minute - hitting the crossbar after a cross from Alexandre Lacazette fell to him.

The goal was Bellerin's second goal in consecutive EPL games for Arsenal.

The Gunners then had to wait until the 35th minute to threaten again, Begovic using his feet to deny Danny Welbeck one-on-one.

Arsenal did take the lead after the break through a strike from Hector Bellerin as he was nicely put through by Alex Iwobi.

However, Bournemouth produced a dramatic turnaround; first equalising in the 70th minute through Callum Wilson, who beat Petr Cech to the ball and slammed it home after an inviting cross from Ryan Fraser.

The Cherries nearly made the breakthrough in the 40th minute through Ryan Fraser after some great work by Jordon Ibe saw the ball fall to the Scot, but Calum Chambers came flying in to make the block. Bournemouth, meanwhile, climb to 13th but remain just four points above the bottom three.

- Bournemouth have recorded their first win against a side from the "big six" in the Premier League since December 2016 (4-3 v Liverpool), ending runs of 14 winless games (D3 L11) and nine successive losses.

"Alexis would have played, but it's a hard period for him".
