CES 2018, An Event All About Consumer Electronics, Hit By Major Blackout

The power has gone out at the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, leaving major brands including LG, Panasonic and Bosch in the dark.

The Consumer Electronics Show came to a halt after a power outage at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The South Hall is also affected, as people are being stopped getting to and from the exhibition areas.

The 2018 Consumer Electronics Show was supposed to be that event where all the latest gadgets and gizmos are showed off by various companies.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the organisers behind CES, blamed the glitch on the heavy rains the day before.

"We are working hard to restore this temporary power outage at the LVCC [Las Vegas Convention Center]". Again, thank you for your patience during this time.

The power failure followed heavy rain on Tuesday, which had forced Google to shut one of its booths located in the LVCC's vehicle park.

CES sprawls across many venues close to the Las Vegas Strip, and the CTA had highlighted that majority had been unaffected. Both large and smaller ones rely on the annual trade show to ink deals that will translate to cash months in the future; the blackout disrupted some of the product demos, panels and meetings key to those deals.

TV maker LG's OLED Canyon display demo, with 246 OLED panels and more than 30 high-definition generators, took almost an hour to get back in full operation. As a result, numerous devices that were being showcased at CES 2018 were not visible enough for media coverage.

Intel posted a photo of a darkened hall of the show, with the caption, "Introducing Blackoutâ„¢: The biggest thing to hit #CES2018 since #5G".

Some companies still managed to do demos on their charged laptops and other devices, while others, such as Samsung, had limited backup power.

At least one display remained operational during the blackout: Energizer.
