Matt Patricia Reportedly The Favorite To Land Giants Head Coaching Job

Some Detroit Lions fans are a bit confused at the report New England defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is favoring taking the Giants head coaching position over the Lions.

The Feeling is Mutual According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, "all signs" show that the Giants seem to favor Patricia as well.

Bottom line is no one really knows until the Patriots are eliminated from the playoffs and offers can be extended. In fact, there are indications he prefers the Giants to the Lions.

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, 52, was also reported as a candidate for the Giants' head coaching job following an interview on Saturday.

"Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Patriots are bracing for defensive coordinator Matt Patricia to leave, most likely to become the next coach of the Detroit Lions", Florio wrote. The NFL coaching carousel sure is spinning with Patricia.

However, it's Patricia, a NY native and former offensive lineman, that is believed to be favored by new general manager David Gettleman who, according to the Daily News, is keen on fixing the Giants' offensive line and improving the franchise's culture.

The former aeronautical engineer has led New England to a top ten defense in terms of points allowed in each season since being named defensive coordinator in 2012.

If the Giants elect to hire Patricia, they will need to have a plan in place for offensive coordinator.

He would take over for Steve Spagnuolo, the Giants' interim head coach who stepped in after Ben McAdoo was sacked after Week 13 of a nightmare 2017 season. Leonard suggests Patricia could hire Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll due to their time spent together in New England.
