Donald Trump says he would 'beat Oprah' in presidency battle

US President Donald Trump would gladly face Oprah Winfrey as an opponent in the 2020 presidential race, a White House spokesman said on Monday after social media buzz from her speech at an awards show thrust her name into the political arena.

As she received a lifetime achievement award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the actress and TV star spoke of her humble upbringing and her childhood respect for civil rights heroes.

Dave Shiflett, who co-wrote the book, told Refinery29 that, while he didn't think Trump was serious about running for president at the time, he was aware of what an asset Oprah would be were he do so.

Meryl Streep was quoted as telling the Washington Post that she wanted Winfrey to run for president. When she ramped the energy and emotion even higher with her "new day is on the horizon" proclamation, I no longer had any doubt that I was hearing political oratory of a very high order.

"I don't think at this point she is actually considering it" said Winfrey's best friend Gayle King, who is also a television personality. She was raised in poverty by a single mother and went on to host the top-rated talk show "The Oprah Winfrey Show" for 25 years before ending it in 2011.

It often takes an Oprah Winfrey, someone undisputedly at the top of the game, to drop the anvil. "It feels like this is Oprah 2020".

After college, she went into journalism before reigning for 25 years as queen of the USA talk show, ushering in an era of confessional television before becoming the first black woman to own a television network.

With nearly three years to run, there is still all to play for in the 2020 presidential election. "I had to dry my eyes before presenting the director's award right after Oprah's speech". Yes it is. May we all greet it with hope, resolve and faith. She had Donald Trump, this was before politics, her last week. Actor Natasha Rothwell also weighed in, reminding Ivanka of the accusations against her dad, as did author Michael Wolff, who said, "Who does she think her father is?" Winfrey made her first campaign appearances on Obama's behalf in December of that year, and it is logical to assume that her support won him votes in the primaries, though it is not possible to know how many.

The prospect of a Winfrey candidacy was met with enthusiasm among a number of Democrats, who see her as an inspirational response to the Trump presidency.
