All Macs, iOS devices affected by chip security flaws - Apple warns

Ben Johnson, co-founder and chief strategist for cyber security firm Carbon Black, said the delay in updating customers about whether Apple's devices are at risk could affect Apple's drive to get more business customers to adopt its hardware.

It also advised all users to download software only from trusted sources and avoid malicious apps.

Besides, as per a report published on The guardian.com, Apple is also developing protections against the Spectre flaw for its Safari browser for iOS and macOS devices.

In a blog post, Apple said it had released software updates for iOS, its phone and tablets software, macOS, used by its computers, and tvOS for its television products. Apple, has already acknowledged the potential security flaw in its MAC and iOS devices but there are no known exploits impacting customers at this time.

More news: Apple could buy Netflix, say analysts

Apple explains that Meltdown "has the the most potential to be exploited", while Spectre is "extremely difficult" to exploit.

Meltdown and Spectre, the bugs affecting most chips have hit Apple as well. The company will release an update to its Safari web browser in coming days to defend against another form of the security flaw known as Spectre. Apple has already released all of those updates, so if you own any of those devices, you can protect them by making sure your operating system is up-to-date.

IDC estimated that there are 1.5bn PCs in use around the world today, out of which 90pc are powered by Intel processors.

As far as it matters for its, Intel said in an announcement on Thursday that it "has created and is quickly issuing refreshes for a wide range of Intel-based PC frameworks-including PCs and servers-that render those frameworks invulnerable from the two endeavors... detailed by Google Project Zero", whose specialists helped unobtrusively find the defects a year ago. But someone, somewhere, blew the lid and tech giants are scrambling because the fear is that now the secret is out in the open, hackers could move fast to exploit these weaknesses.
